The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of West Babylon man during a fatal overdose investigation that occurred on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in Merrick.
According to Narcotics/Vice Squad detectives, an investigation into a fatal overdose of a Nassau County resident led to the arrest of Javonne Mimms, 30, of 45 Peary Street.
During the investigation at Best Western Hotel located at 5080 Sunrise Highway, Mimms intentionally struck a Nassau County Police Department vehicle with a 2018 white BMW, causing a detective to suffer a back injury. He fled the scene after striking a second parked, unoccupied vehicle. A short time later, Mimms was arrest on Hoffman Avenue in Lindenhurst.
Narcotics/Vice Squad detectives placed the defendant under arrest and recovered a white substance believed to be crack cocaine.
The detective who suffered a back injury was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Defendant Mimms is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, three (3) counts Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree and two (2) counts of Leaving the Scene of an Incident. He will be arraigned on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at First District Court, Hempstead.
Mimms was previously arrested on 5/12/22 for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. He was released without bail.
