The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of an Amityville woman for Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 22:25 am in Syosset.

According to Police, Dshawna Courtney, 30, of 9 Summer Lane, was operating a 2019 Kia northbound on Route 135 at Exit 14W when she struck a tree.  Officers responded to the accident.

A subsequent investigation was conducted and defendant Dshawna Courtney was placed under arrest without incident.  The defendant’s male son, 18 months, was a passenger in her vehicle. 

 The child suffered an abrasion to his neck and the subject suffered a laceration to her head.   They were both removed to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. 

Defendant Dshawna Courtney is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra Law and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  She will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at First District Court, Hempstead.
