Fifth Squad Detectives report the arrest of two individuals for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 3:15 pm in Valley Stream.
According to detectives, Kiara Cooper, 22, of 12365 147th Street, Jamaica, New York and Quanmik Wells, 32, of 472 Ruby Street, Apt. M, Brooklyn, New York, became involved in a verbal altercation on a NICE Bus at the intersection of West Merrick Road and Arlington Avenue. During the dispute, Cooper pulled out a knife and threatened two female passengers ages 18 and 43 years old.
Police were flagged down by passengers and placed Kiara Cooper under arrest. While officers were taking Defendant Cooper into custody, Quanmik Wells continued to threaten the 2 female victims and ignored officers verbal commands. As officers attempted to place him into custody, Wells physically resisted and an officer sustained injuries during the course of the arrest, due to the defendant’s combative behavior. The injured officer suffered lacerations, swelling and substantial pain to his right hand. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
While in custody, Defendant Wells was found to be in possession of 41 plastic capsules containing a white rock like substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Defendant Cooper’s son, 6, was present during the altercation and was released into the custody of a family member.
Defendant Kiara Cooper is charged with Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Harassment 2nd Degree and Disorderly Conduct. Defendant Quanmik Wells is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree and Disorderly Conduct.
Both defendants will be arraigned on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at First District Court, Hempstead.
