Arson Bomb Squad Detectives report the arrest of a homeless male for an incident that occurred on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 3:34 pm in North New Hyde Park.
According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a larceny that had just occurred and an active fire of a shopping cart full of items, in the side parking lot of Five Below, 697 Hillside Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a shopping cart on fire and were informed by employees from Five Below that a male subject had passed all points of purchase with merchandise from the store, making no attempt to pay for the items.
According to detectives, Jatinder Singh, 29, homeless, was observed on video, strike a match and light the shopping cart on fire before leaving the scene.
After reviewing the video, responding officers searched the area and located Singh who was placed under arrest without incident.
During his arrest, Defendant Jatinder Singh was found to be responsible for the following other Arsons:
Defendant Jatinder is charged with Petit Larceny, Arson 5th Degree and two (2) counts of Arson 4th Degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, September 11, 2022 in First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
