The First Squad reports the arrest of two Roosevelt men for a Robbery that occurred on Saturday, May 02, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Freeport.
According to detectives, a male victim, 16 years of age was walking in the vicinity of Rogers Place and Independence Avenue when he was approached by defendant Andy Lafontant, 23, of 36 Anna Avenue and Sayquane Marshall, 24 of 237 Babylon Turnpike. Lafontant displayed a black handgun while Marshall went through the victim’s pockets removing an I-phone and a wallet containing personal papers along with an unknown amount of cash. The subjects fled in an unknown direction. The victim contacted Freeport police after he was able to track his phone to a store on Nassau Road, Uniondale. First Squad detectives responded to the location to conduct an investigation where it was discovered the subjects had unsuccessfully attempted to sell the phone and left in an older model Chrysler. While canvassing the area detectives observed the defendants driving on E. Clinton Avenue in Uniondale. A vehicle and traffic stop was conducted at which time both defendants were placed under arrest without incident. The black handgun was recovered from the vehicle and the wallet was found in Lafontant’s pants pocket. Emergency Service Officers located the phone in a storm drain on Sunrise Highway where it had been discarded.
Both defendants are charged with one count of Robbery 1st degree, two counts of Robbery 2nd degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree. They will be arraigned on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
