The Second Squad reports the arrest of a Farmingdale man for Driving While Intoxicated that occurred on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 6:50 p.m. in Bethpage.
According to detectives, Anthony R. Valenti, 56 of 209 Birch Avenue was driving his 2013 Nissan Murano southbound on Broadway, as he made a left turn on to Central Avenue to proceed eastbound he struck a male pedestrian, 69 years of age, as he was pushing his 2 year old grandson in a stroller northbound in the crosswalk on Central Avenue. The stroller became lodge under the vehicle which continued eastbound for one block before coming to a stop at the corner of N. Windhorst Avenue. The baby and stroller were removed from under the vehicle by a passerby. Second Precinct officers responded to the location where they placed the defendant under arrest without incident. The child suffered what appeared to be minor injuries to head, face, and arm. The grandfather suffered an injury to his left foot and ankle, along with neck and back pain. Both were transported to a local hospital where they were admitted for treatment of their injuries. The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety check.
Valenti is charged with (2) two counts of Assault 3rd degree, Operate MV .08%, DWI , Reckless Driving and Fail to use due care to avoid a pedestrian. He will be arraigned on Sunday, May 03, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
