The Fifth Precinct Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit report the arrest of two (2) men during the “Project 21” initiative, which targets the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to minors. The initiative was conducted on Monday, November 21, 2022, in Elmont.
According to officers, with the assistance of underage agents, the following individuals were arrested as a result of this operation:
• Juan Hernandez Tavares, 44, of 53 Meacham Avenue, Elmont, sold alcohol to a minor at Del Caribe Deli, 53 Meacham Avenue in Elmont. He is charged with Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage and Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st Degree.
• Malik S. Anwar, 52, of 9 Covert Avenue, Elmont, sold alcohol and tobacco products to a minor at BP Gas Station, 653 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont. He is charged with Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage, Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st Degree, Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 2nd Degree and Unlawful Sale of Tobacco Products.
The above defendants were issued Nassau County Appearance Tickets and are due back in First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead on December 8, 2022.
