The First Squad reports the arrest of a Far Rockaway male and female for Criminal Possession of a Firearm that occurred on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 10:55 pm in Uniondale.
According to detectives, first precinct Gang Abatement Program (GAP) officers observed a traffic infraction on a 2015 Mercedes C320 sedan located in front of a residential home on Smith Street and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. During the investigation it was found that the vehicle’s registration and insurance had been suspended. While conducting an impound and inventory check of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded black and grey J.A. nine-millimeter handgun inside the vehicle. Defendants Kyle Matthews, 21, of 419 Beach 45th Street and Crystal Caraballo, 20, of 2712 Deerfield Road were placed under arrest without incident.
Both defendants were charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree. Defendant Matthews was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. They will be arraigned on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
