The Third Squad reports the arrest of Hempstead man for Grand Larceny that occurred in Hempstead on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 1:57 in Hempstead.
According to detectives, Hempstead Police Officers responded to call of a man removing parts from a rooftop air conditioner belonging to the Salvation Army located at 194 Front Street. Upon police arrival they observed the defendant Joseph W. Smith, 32, of 91 South Franklin Avenue run from the rooftop and onto the street in order to avoid police. An extensive search was then conducted and at 6:50 pm the defendant Joseph W. Smith was located in front 91 South Franklin Avenue and placed into police custody without incident. There were no injuries reported. Nassau County Third Squad detectives later determined that the defendant was responsible for other roof top HVAC larcenies and closed out pending cases for incidents that occurred on :

Joseph W. Smith is charged with five counts Grand Larceny 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 2ND Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
