The Public Information Office reports the arrest of three Brooklyn men for an incident that occurred on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 7:39 p.m. in Westbury.
According to Police, defendant’s Quamik Stephenson, 24, of 1134a Sterling Place, and Ronald Jiles-Ais, 24, of 391 Rockaway Parkway walked into Target, 999 Corporate Drive, and placed two infant car seats into their shopping carts. The two subjects proceeded to the customer service counter in an attempt to return merchandise which was never purchased, and the returns were denied. The defendants then passed all points of purchase with the merchandise. The defendants entered the rear seat of a parked black Tesla with the merchandise. Store security notified Police who responded to the scene.
Responding Officer’s observed the stolen merchandise inside of the vehicle and made contact with the driver of the Tesla, defendant Malique Wilson, 22, of 179 Madison Street. During the investigation, defendant Wilson exited the vehicle and fled on foot. With Officers in close pursuit, on foot, defendant Wilson ran back to the vehicle and attempted to drive away with an Officer at the passenger door. The Officer entered the vehicle in an attempt to arrest the subject, when the subject began to drive away with the Officer’s body dangling out of the passenger side of the vehicle. Defendant Wilson rammed three cars, including a Police vehicle, in an attempt to flee the scene, creating substantial damage and risk to the public and Police. Defendant Wilson exited the vehicle and fled on foot again. He was located a short time later hiding in the rear of a dump truck which was parked in a nearby parking lot. He was placed under arrest without further incident. Defendant Jiles-Ais who was a passenger in the back seat was placed under arrest without further incident and found to be in possession of three fraudulent driver licenses.
Defendant Stephenson also fled from Police, on foot prior to the collision, and was located hiding in a nearby parking lot. He was placed under arrest without incident.
Defendant Wilson is charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Leaving the Scene of Incident with Property Damage, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Reckless endangerment 1st Degree, and Attempted Assault of a Police Officer. Defendant Wilson was found to have an open warrant with the NYPD for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, issued on December 14, 2022. He will be arraigned on Monday, March 13, 2023, at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
Defendant Jiles-Ais is charged with Petit Larceny, and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Monday, March 13, 2023, at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
Defendant Stephenson is charged with Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Monday, March 13, 2023, at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
