The Homicide Squad reports the details for a Menacing of a Police Officer that occurred on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at approximately 4:50am in Hempstead.
According to Detectives, Hempstead Police Officers responded to an apartment at 330 Washington Street for a violent man. Upon arrival, the male subject began yelling at the Officers stating that he had a knife and a gun and that he was going to shoot the Officers. The male subject opened the door with the knife in his hand and menaced the Officers. At that time, one of the Officers deployed his Electronic Control Device (Taser), however it was ineffective on the subject. The subject, still holding the knife, then moved closer to the Officers in a threatening manner causing one of the Officers to discharge his firearm one time, striking the male subject in the upper torso. The subject was arrested without further incident. He was transported to a local area hospital for treatment and is listed in stable condition. No additional injuries were reported.
Defendant Patrick Alexis, 31, of 330 Washington Street is charged with four counts of Menacing a Police Officer, one count of Criminal Mischief 4th Degree and one count Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th Degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
