The Sixth Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny that occurred on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 4:15 PM in Thomaston.
According to Detectives, a female was at home when her computer appeared to have contracted a virus. She googled “Apple Support” and called a phone number that her search had provided. The victim spoke to an unknown male who identified himself as “Apple Support”. He instructed her to download the AnyDesk application, giving him access to her mobile device. He proceeded to instruct her to login to her Zelle and Venmo accounts and send $4,000 U.S. to another unknown male. The victim grew suspicious and called 911 a short time later. The investigation is ongoing.
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
