The First Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 10:45 p.m. in Uniondale.
According to Detectives, Officers observed a green and white taxi committing multiple traffic infractions on Hempstead Turnpike. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. Defendant Donald Hayes, 42, of 65 Nassau Parkway, who was in the rear passenger seat, appeared nervous and was not complying to officer’s verbal commands. Defendant Hayes was found to be in possession of glassine envelopes containing a white powdery substance believed to be heroin. As Officers were recovering the drugs, the defendant did push away from the officers and attempted to flee the scene on foot. The defendant was shortly after apprehended where he further refused verbal commands and resisted arrest.
Subsequent to the investigation, a Springfield Armory GI .45 caliber handgun was recovered from inside of the defendant’s bag that was found on the driver side floorboard, as well as two square shaped yellow pills believed to be Ecstasy.
Further investigation revealed defendant Hayes had an open bench warrant for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property that occurred on December 2022, in Nassau County.
Defendant Hayes is charged with two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Friday, April 14, 2023, at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
