The Eighth Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny that occurred on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 9:00 AM in Farmingdale and was reported to Police on Friday, April 21, 2023.
According to Detectives, a 69-year-old female received a phone call from a subject claiming to be an Apple employee and stated that her computer and all of her accounts were compromised. The subject instructed the victim that she needed to withdraw all of her money from her bank account and travel to Connecticut to transfer it into multiple crypto currency accounts in order to keep it all safe. The victim complied and made several trips, transferring over $500,000 US Currency in total from her account. The victim was informed by her bank that she was scammed and contacted Police. Investigation ongoing.
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
