The Public Information Office reports the details of the arrest of a West Babylon man for an incident that occurred on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 9:43 p.m. in Freeport.
According to Police, Freeport officers observed a 2008 Chevy SUV traveling eastbound on West Sunrise Highway. The front seat passenger in the vehicle then threw a bottle out of her window. Officers initiated a Vehicle and Traffic stop in the vicinity of South Ocean Avenue and West Sunrise Highway. After a thorough investigation, the operator of the vehicle, Anthony Furtado, 60, of 8 Cindy Drive, exhibited signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest without incident. A 4-year-old female was in the back seat of the vehicle and was released into the custody of a family member.
Defendant Furtado is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
