The Third Squad in conjunction with the Fifth Squad and the New York Police Department’s Organized Theft Squad / Financial Crimes Task Force report the arrest of a Corona man on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 7:45am in Elmhurst.
According to Detectives, defendant Hernaldo Saldarriaga-Lopez, 61, of 90 51 51st Avenue Corona (along with another individual not yet arrested) did fraudulently state on two separate dates to two separate victims that he had a winning lottery ticket and solicited their help in cashing it. On July 1, 2016 a 41year old female victim was walking on Prospect Avenue in New Cassel and on July 6, 2016 a 29 year old female victim was walking on Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream. The defendant tells the victims he will share the prize money but they need to provide cash or jewelry to him until the ticket is cashed. The victims are driven to a location and asked to pick up the ticket, upon exiting the vehicle, the defendant drives away leaving the victims behind. The combined investigation led to the arrest on Grand Avenue and Seabury Street in Elmhurst. Search incident to arrest recovered two pills believed to be Alprazolam, a forged Social Security Card and a forged driver’s license from Puerto Rico. Defendant Hernaldo Saldarriaga-Lopez is charged with two counts of Grand Larceny, two counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument, two counts Scheme to Defraud and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. He will be arraigned on Friday, July 29, 2016 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
