The First Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man for Burglary and Assault which occurred on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 9:45 p.m. in Freeport.
According to detectives, Thomas W. Cummings, 47 of 98 Rose Street knocked on the door of a 35 year old female neighbor in the apartment complex. Upon opening the door, Cummings pushed his way in and attacked her with a metal fork he was carrying, causing puncture wounds to her left arm and right hand. A male friend who was in the apartment entered the kitchen, at which time the victim was able to escape to the hallway. Cummings removed a steak knife from the drawer and chased the victim down the stairs where he continued to attack the victim by slashing her in the back and stabbing her in the arm with the knife. Cummings fled back into to his apartment where he was located and placed under arrest. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Cummings is charged with (2) two counts of Burglary 1st degree, (1) one count of Assault 2nd degree, and (2) two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
