The Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Hempstead woman for DWI on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 3:30 am in East Hills.
According to police, the Nassau County Highway Patrol Bureau responded to an auto accident that occurred on the eastbound exit ramp of the Long Island Expressway at exit 38. Upon arrival police observed the defendant Ambar Chavez, 24, of 135 Clinton Street and her 2001 Mazda in the right lane with extensive front end damage. A 2004 Lexus was also parked on the shoulder also with severe front end damage. An investigation revealed that the defendant was operating her vehicle travelling in the wrong direction when it struck the 2004 Lexus operated by a 51 year old male driver and a 42 year old passenger. Further investigation revealed the defendant was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and placed her into police custody. The driver and passenger of the Lexus complained of neck and back pain but refused medical attention at the scene. Chavez had no injuries.
Ambar Chavez is charged with Driving While Intoxicated 1192.3, Driving While Intoxicated 1192.2, and Possession of Marijuana. She will be arraigned on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in First District Court, Hempstead.
