The Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Baldwin man for Insurance Fraud and Grand Larceny on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 12:43 p.m. in Mineola.
According to detectives, on July 27, 2016 defendant Wilson Castro Jr, 31 of 3434 Colony Drive was arrested by First Precinct Officers during a vehicle and traffic stop in Hempstead. During the traffic stop Castro refused to open his driver’s side window and produce his license to the officers as required by law. His continued resistance to the officer’s requests forced them to break the driver’s window to gain entry and place him under arrest. As a result of the arrest the defendant’s 2015 Subaru was impounded and held as evidence. The vehicle was released to the defendant on August 4, 2016.
On August 27, 2016 Castro filed a complaint with Nassau County Internal Affairs Bureau regarding his arrest in July. During the investigation the detectives discovered that upon the release of Castro’s vehicle he brought the car to Willis Avenue Collision, 933 Willis Avenue in Albertson to have it repaired. Castro filed an insurance claim with Geico Insurance stating that the damage to his vehicle were a result of criminal mischief and larceny by unknown perpetrator which occurred in Astoria on August 4, 2016. Castro received over $6,000.00 from the insurance company as a result of this fraudulent claim.
On October 12, 2016 Castro surrendered to detectives at Nassau County Police Headquarters in Mineola.
