The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Uniondale man for grand larceny that occurred in Hempstead on 10/20/16 at 12:23 P.M.
According to Crimes Against Property Squad detectives, Moan Leach, 34, of 489 Midwood St., entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 145 Fulton Ave. and attempted to cash a check in the amount of $5000, which had been sent to him by a victim, under false pretenses. Beginning 10/07/16, the defendant cashed checks at the bank in the amount of $10,000, sent to him by the victims who were led to believe that they were winners in the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes. The victims had since notified the bank and put a block on their account. A bank employee had recognized the defendant from previous transactions and notified police.
Hempstead Police officers responded and placed Leach under arrest at the scene. He is being charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and two counts of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree (Attempt) and will be arraigned on Friday, 10/21/16 in First District Court, Hempstead.
