The Nassau County Police Department reports the details of an arrest for Assault on a Police Officer that occurred on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 7:46 pm in Lynbrook.
According to police, Lynbrook Police Officers observed a gray 2003 Honda pass through a steady red traffic signal at Peninsula Blvd and Olive Place. Officers conducted a Vehicle Traffic stop. The driver Jose Ponce-Castro, 26, of 57 Vermont Street, Long Beach was observed to have glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person. When officers attempted to place the defendant under arrest, Jose Ponce- Castro refused to comply by flailing his arms and punching three (3) officers with closed fists. After several minutes, officers were able to place the defendant under the arrest. One (1) officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of left shoulder pain and lacerations to his shin and forearm. He was treated and released. The other officers were not injured.
Defendant Ponce-Castro is being charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree, Obstruction of Government Administration, Failure to Obey a Red Traffic Signal and Unlicensed Operator. He will be arraigned on Friday, October 21, 2016 at First District Court, Hempstead.
