The Third Squad reports the arrest of an Upper Brookville man for Assault that occurred on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Greenvale.
According to detectives, a Third Precinct Police Officer stopped at a red light east on Northern Boulevard at Glen Cove Road was flagged down by a motorist saying that the defendant Muhammaddauwd Cheema, 19, of 825 Orchid Lane who was operating a 2016 Jeep also stopped at the light was acting suspiciously and threatening. After the light turned green, the officer activated his emergency lights and siren with Cheema refusing to stop. The defendant continued traveling eastbound and began evading police by driving on the shoulder of the road and by speeding up at times. Defendant Cheema then went south on Route 107 and proceeded to enter the Long Island Expressway east at which time a Nassau County Highway Patrol Officer arrived to assist. Between exits 42 and 43 the defendants vehicle swerved, lost control and struck the Highway Police Vehicle causing damage. Cheema regained control of his vehicle and continued traveling east with the officer’s following. Cheema exited the expressway at exit 51 south and continued driving until he pulled into the driveway of a Dickens Avenue, Dix Hills residence. After refusing several direct orders by the police a brief struggle ensued and Cheema was placed into police custody. The Highway Patrol Officer was treated at a local hospital for neck, back and shoulder injuries. Cheema received no injuries.
Muhammaddauwd Cheema is being charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, and Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a P. O. 3rd Degree, and multiple NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, October 23, 2016.
