The Public Information Office reports the details of an Aided case that occurred on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 6:57am in Merrick.
According to Police, a thirty-four year old pregnant woman, Jessica Fernandez, began to go into labor while being driven to the hospital by her husband. Her husband pulled the vehicle over on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway and Meadowbrook Road (Exit 22) and called 911. He began speaking to a Police Medic who gave him pre-delivery instructions to assist him help his wife who was actively giving birth. The father delivered the baby girl as Police Medics Leonard and DiPino arrived on scene. The Police Medics placed the Mom and baby on a stretcher in the ambulance and performed medical evaluations on both patients. It was determined that the Mom and baby were in good health, so Dad was able to cut the umbilical cord. The family was transported to Northwell Long Island Jewish Hospital for further evaluations.
