The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Connecticut man for grand larceny that occurred in Bellmore and Massapequa beginning 09/09/16 through 09/28/16.According to detectives, on Friday, 09/09/16 and Wednesday, 09/28/16, Joseph Castro, 52, of 167 Liberty Street, Middletown, entered J and H Jewelry located at 2723 Merrick Rd. in Bellmore, engaged employees in conversation under the rouse that he was there to purchase a ring, and concealed eight rings valued in excess of $18,000 in his mouth. The losses were discovered during a store inventory. On Monday, 09/12/16, the defendant entered Great American Jewelry Inc. located at 5163 Merrick Rd. in Massapequa, and again concealed a ring in his mouth, valued in excess of $4,000, under the rouse that he wanted to make a purchase. The loss was determined during a store inventory.On Tuesday, 12/13/16, the defendant entered Good Old Gold located at 5278 Sunrise Hwy in Massapequa Park, where he was recognized by store employees, who then notified police. Seventh Precinct police officers responded and placed the defendant under arrest at the scene. The defendant was also found to be in possession of heroin. Castro is being charged with two counts of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and was arraigned on Wednesday, 12/14/16 in First District Court, Hempstead.Detectives request anyone who may have been victimized by Castro to notify the Seventh Squad at 517-573-6756.
