The Second Squad reports the arrest of a Copiague man for Robbery that occurred on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 4:45 am.
According to detectives, a 41 year old male driver for Centro Taxi was sitting in his running cab on Broadway in the vicinity of East Barclay Street at which time a male subject walked up and entered into the cab and demanded to be driven to Massapequa. The driver refused saying that his shift was over. The subject then pulled a gold chain off the victim’s neck that then fueled into a physical altercation between the two occurring outside the taxi cab. The subject also displayed a utility knife and cut the victim’s left arm causing a laceration. The subject fled on foot with the gold chain. Second Precinct police officers were called to respond. After hearing a description broadcasted of the subject, police soon after were able to locate the defendant Ramel Giggetts, 30, of 1 Russell Court walking on East Marie Street. After further investigation, he was placed into police custody without incident. The gravity knife was recovered. The gold chain was not recovered. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in a Nassau County Police Ambulance and was treated for his arm injury.
Ramel Giggetts is charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, May 28, 2017.
