The Fifth Squad reports thearrest of a Huntington man for Grand Larceny which occurred on Friday, July 7,2017 at 7:45 am in Elmont.
According to detectives, thefemale victim, 62, received text messages on her cell phone from her sonMichael Sorbera, 31, of 320 Nassau Road, stating he was in trouble. Thevictim later received a call from an unknown male (not yet arrested) onSorbera’s cell phone. The male directed the victim to wire money toWestern Union in her son’s name and threatened to physically harm her andMichael if she did not comply. During this phone call, Michael stated hewas kidnapped and begged his mother to send money. The victim reportedthe incident to police.
During the investigation,Michael Sorbera was located at his 320 Nassau Road residence. It wasdetermined he was not kidnapped and was not in extreme danger. He wasarrested.
Defendant Sorbera is chargedwith Grand Larceny 2nd degree and Conspiracy 4th degree. He will be arraigned Saturday, July 08, 2017 at First District Court,Hempstead.
