The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Levittown woman for Burglary that occurred in Wantagh on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 6:00 am.
According to detectives, a Seventh Precinct police officer was on routine patrol traveling south on Wantagh Avenue. As he approached the State Farm Insurance
Agency located at 1268 Wantagh Avenue he observed a broken glass door and the defendant Karen Colato, 25, of 20 Amber Lane running away to the rear of the
building. Defendant Colato was then met by the alert police officer who prevented her from entering a parked running green 2008 Ford. It was also discovered in
the front passenger seat was her 4 month old female infant daughter unsecured and wrapped in a blanket. Karen Colato was then placed into police custody
without incident. After an investigation it was determined that the defendant did throw a brick threw the front glass door shattering it in attempt to gain entry. No
proceeds were removed. A Nassau County Ambulance transported the infant to a local hospital for medical evaluation along with the father who responded from home.
Defendant Karen Colato is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She will be arraigned on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead. Details by: Det. Siarkowicz/Seventh Squad 07/15/17/1605/8348
