The First Squad reports the details of an arrest for Assault that occurred on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in Baldwin.
According to detectives, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. a male victim, 36 was a seated in the passenger seat of a Chrysler sedan parked on Van Buren Street talking with the female driver. The defendant Malik G. Burton, 25 of 129 Casino Street, Freeport stopped next to them in a BMW and proceeded to engage in a verbal argument with the victim. Burton parked across the street from the victim’s vehicle as the argument continued to escalate. The victim exited the vehicle he was in and removed a bat from the trunk, while Burton exited his vehicle and produced a hand gun. The victim turned to retreat to his car when Burton fired one shot striking the victim in the buttock. Burton fled in an unknown direction and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
A Subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of Burton on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in Rockville Center. At the time of his arrest he was found to be in possession of over 8 ounces of marijuana. The weapon was not recovered.
Burton is charged with Assault1st degree (attempt), Assault 2nd degree, CriminalPossession of Marijuana 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon2nd degree, Crimianl Possession of a weapon 3rd degree,and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. He will be arraigned on Saturday July 22,2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
