Third Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for assault and reckless endangerment that occurred in Westbury on Sunday, 07/23/17 at 3:42 P.M.
According to detectives,Third Precinct police officers, while on patrol on Post Ave., observed a BMW with a switched South Carolina license plate. As the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle sped up to avoid them. The officers then pulled up beside the driver’s side of the car to give direction to pullover, when operator Talique Thomas, 16, of 30 A 3rd Ave., Westbury, intentionally served into the police car, colliding with them. The defendant continued driving and turned into the parking lot of 195 Old Country Rd., where he was again in collision with the police vehicle two additional times to avoid police. This caused additional injuries to the police officers and the police vehicle was completely disabled. The defendant’s vehicle continued to flee, with a damaged tire, onto Old Country Rd./Meadowbrook Pkwy., where he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a 2007 Toyota. The defendant and three additional males fled their auto on foot. The officers located the defendant, who did not comply with officer’s orders to stop, in front of 268 Wright Ave., Carle Place, where he was placed under arrest. The defendant was found to be in possession of seven plastic bags of marijuana. One other male subject was located by police officers and later released.
The two police officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the Toyota were uninjured. The defendant was medically cleared and transported to the Third Squad.
Thomas is being charged with two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree,Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a P.O. 3rdDegree, Leave Accident Physical Injury, Fail to Signal, Facsimile License Plate Violation, Fail Notify Suspended License, and Fail to Stop Intersection Stop Sign. He will be arraigned on Monday, 07/24/17 in First District Court, Hempstead.
