The Arson Bomb Squad is investigating a Fire that occurred on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 5:05 am in Oyster Bay.
According to detectives, Officers responded to a Kellogg Street home that was fully engulfed. Oyster Bay, East Norwich, Bayville, Syosset, Jericho, Atlantic Steamers, and Glenwood Fire Departments responded with ten (10) fire apparatus and fifty-five (55) firefighters to extinguish the fire. The owner of the home a 68 year old male received second degree burns about the body, a 58 year old male tenant suffered smoke inhalation and an Oyster Bay firefighter suffered minor burns to his knees, arms and forehead. The victims were all transported to a local hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries. Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad Detectives along with the Nassau County Fire Marshall have determined the fire to be accidental.

According to police, Legislator Donald MacKenzie (District 18), who lives across the street from the burning home, heard screams. The Legislator went outside and saw a male on the first level roof screaming for help. Legislator MacKenzie grabbed a ladder from his home, placed it up against the burning house and with the assistance of Second Precinct Police Officer William Massari, where able to safely remove the victim from the roof.
