The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Roslyn woman for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:19 a.m.
According to Police, a Third Precinct Officer observed Martha Castro, 32, of 1721 Lumber Rd, speeding and swerving, failing to stay in a single lane while driving a 2016 Lexus NX Eastbound on Northern Boulevard and Aster Lane. The defendant had a 17-month old male in the back seat of the car at the time.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the defendant’s breath and observed that she had glassy eyes and slurred speech. At this time, the defendant was placed under arrest. The minor was released to his mother, who was also in the car at the time of the incident.
The defendant is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 15) under the Leandra Law, Endangering the Welfare of a Child as well as multiple VTL violations. She will be arraigned on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
