The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Floral Park man for Assault that occurred on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 3:30 am in Floral Park.
According to detectives, patrol officers observed a 2006 Honda Civic traveling westbound on Terrace Avenue in the vicinity of Plainfield Avenue at a high rate of speed. Officers activated emergency lights and initiated a Traffic Stop. The operator of the Honda Civic refused to stop and attempted to flee police. The vehicle finally stopped in front of 36 Laurel Street. A male driver exited the Honda, ignored officers’ commands and fled on foot. A short time later, officers caught up with the subject and a struggle ensued. Alex Mitchell, 21, of 36 Laurel Street was subdued and placed under arrest.
The first officer suffered injuries to his jaw, right forearm and hand.
The second officer suffered injuries to his face and left forearm.
Both officers were treated at an area hospital and released.
The defendant was treated at the scene by a Police Medic.
Defendant Mitchell is charged with two (2) counts of Assault 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer 3rd degree, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Imprudent Speed. He will be arraigned Thursday, September 28, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
