The Major Case Bureau reports the arrests of two (2) women for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument that occurred on Wednesday, March 02, 2016 in Westbury.
According to Crimes Against Property Squad detectives, defendants Simone Brown, 21, of 167-31 109th Avenue, Jamaica and Kristina Fontanez, 27, of 188- 10 119th Road, St. Albans purchased four (4) United States Postal money orders totaling $2,700.00 with twenty seven (27) counterfeit 100 dollar bills from a Westbury post office. On March 03, 2016 the defendants then proceeded to a Carle Place Post Office where defendant Fontanez cashed two (2) money orders totaling $1,595.00. A few minutes later defendant Brown attempted to cash additional money orders, but an employee became suspicious of the transaction and refused. The US Postal Inspector notified police and after an investigation on March 22, 2016 placed defendant Fontanez under arrest in front of her home. Defendant Brown surrendered to the Nassau County Police Department on March 23, 2016. It was also discovered that the defendants cashed money orders at a Brooklyn post office for a loss of $2,692.00 to the United States Post Office.
Defendants Brown and Fontanez are being charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument and Grand Larceny 4th Degree. They will be arraigned on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at First District Court, Hempstead.
