Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder announce safety initiatives in association with National School Safety Week.
On Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 7:45 a.m., The Nassau County Police Department will be conducting Controlled Traffic Enforcement in School Zones. Problem Oriented Police Officers will be utilizing Laser and Radar to enforce Vehicle and Traffic Laws in school zones. Any media planning to attend should meet Public Information Office detectives at Hillside Park Drive / Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park.
At 10:00 a.m., P.O.P. officers will join the students at Garden City Park Elementary School, 51 Central Avenue, New Hyde Park to create identification cards with the student’s picture and fingerprints utilizing a Kid Pix machine. Any media wishing to observe the students receiving ID cards should respond to the school by 9:45 am.
Interviews will be available with P.O.P. Officers, school officials, and several first grade students.
