According to detectives, a 17 year old female victim went to the home of defendant Manuel Espinal, 18, of 560 Park Avenue, Uniondale to retrieve clothing and a cell phone she had left behind. The defendant threw the victims’ clothing outside, but refused to give her the cell phone. The victim became alarmed when the defendant placed a handgun into a duffel bag and run upstairs. The victim then called police from a neighbor’s home. The defendant fled the residence on foot in an unknown direction. Upon arrival, police observed the black duffel bag containing a loaded .45 caliber Remington model 1911R handgun (which was reported stolen from Hampton Virginia on June 26, 2015) and a loaded .9mm Highpoint model C9 handgun. Also recovered were five (5) clear plastic bags containing a brownish green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a bottle containing a purple liquid believed to be Codeine and eighty-five (85) pills with the number “5” and the letter “r” believed to be oxycodone.
On Sunday, May 1, 2016, defendant Espinal surrendered to the Nassau County Police Department. He is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th and 4th Degrees and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He will be arraigned on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at First District Court, Hempstead.
