According to detectives, on Saturday, April 30, 2016 a female victim, 51, attempted to purchase a cell phone that she had seen for sale online from an unknown male. She met the suspect on the street at 530 Sterling Street in Uniondale and gave him $200 for the phone. The suspect pushed the victim and fled the scene with the money and the phone. A short time later the victim saw the same phone for sale online. She set up a meeting later in the day at 30 Searing Street in Hempstead to buy the phone and notified First Precinct officers. The officers were at this location when they observed Jahmani R. Harleston, 17, of 884 Nassau Road, Apt. A, Uniondale walking towards their vehicle. When the officers identified themselves, Harleston ran from them and after a short foot pursuit was stopped in the rear of an Elmwood Avenue home. After a struggle, the suspect was placed into custody.
Harleston is charged with Grand Larceny 4th degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Monday, May 2, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
Date of arrest is Saturday, April 30, 2016 and the date of arraignment is May 1, 2016.
