Third Squad detectives report the details of the arrest of a Huntington Station woman for Endangering the Welfare of Elderly that occurred on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10:23 a.m. in Garden City Park.
According to detectives, Third Precinct officers responded to the home of the victim, a 90 year old female, for a well check. Upon arrival officers were met by the home health aide, defendant, Tasha Smalls, 32, of 38 Clifford Court, Huntington Station. Police stated they needed to check on the well-being of the victim when the defendant refused to allow the officers to enter the victim’s home. After the victim opened the door for police, Tasha Smalls obstructed the officers from entering and preventing them from their course of duties.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the victim attempted to call 911 to report an injury caused by a radiator falling on her leg. The defendant grabbed the phone away from the victim, preventing her from finishing the 911 call. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Tasha Smalls is being charged with Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Person, Endangering the Welfare of Elderly, Obstruction of Government Administration and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. The defendant will be arraigned on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in First District Court, Hempstead.
