The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Hicksville man for Robbery that occurred on several dates in 2018 in Hicksville.
According to the RobberySquad and Burglary Pattern Squad Detectives, defendant Juan Carlos Ortiz, 25,of 15 Burkland Lane, was observed in the vicinity of S Broadway, Hicksvillesmoking what appeared to be crack cocaine from a clear glass pipe. WhenDetectives approached, the defendant fled the scene on foot disposing of awhite garment and the above clear glass pipe. After a brief foot pursuitthe defendant was placed under arrest. The white garment (a hooded mask) andpipe were recovered.
After an investigation itwas determined that defendant Ortiz was responsible for the following Burglaryand Robberies:
On January 24, 2018 at 12:47am the defendant broke a window and entered the Capitol One Bank located at 190Broadway. There were no proceeds.
On March 4, 2018 at 8:15 pmthe defendant entered the Puff N Stuff smoke shop and demanded money. The67 year old male employee complied with an undetermined amount of US currency. The defendant was described as wearing a white hooded mask covering his face.
On April 16, 2018 at 8:25 pm the defendant forced a 54 year old employee into JM Travel and Multiservice – 2E Marie Street pushed the victim to the ground and stole her purse. Thedefendant was described as wearing a white mask.
Defendant Ortiz is beingcharged with Robbery 1st Degree, Robbery 3rd Degree,Burglary 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a ControlledSubstance 7th Degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, April26, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
