Third Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man for DWI(Leandra’s Law) that occurred on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:30P.M. in Mineola.
According to Detectives,Police responded to Winthrop Hospital-259 1st Street, Mineola to investigate a call for an assault. A female victim, 34, directed Police to a white “Empire” ambulette that was being driven by her boyfriend defendant Horace Campbell, 38, of 53 Rose Avenue, Hempstead. Officers observed the vehicle being driven south on Mineola Blvd at Old Country Road . A car stop was attempted. Defendant continued driving the vehicle south on Franklin Avenue,swerving in and out of his lane. The defendant-who is an ambulance driver for Empire State Medi-Cab was eventually stopped at W. Columbia Street in Hempstead. An investigation was conducted and defendant was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The defendants 18 month old male child was ocated in the rear compartment of the ambulette. The child was returned to the custody of a family member. The female victim was treated at an area hospital for bruising/swelling to her face.
Defendant is charged withEndangering the Welfare of a Child, DWI, Aggravated DWI(Leandra’s Law),Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Unlawful Fleeing Police, Assault, Criminal Contempt and several Vehicle and Traffic law violations. He will be arraigned on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
