The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Florida man for Driving While Intoxicated-Leandra’s Law that occurred on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 1:31 am in East Hills.
According to police, a Third Precinct Officer on routine patrol observed a 2018 Dodge Caravan traveling southbound on Glen Cove Road failing to signal for a lane change and then failed to maintain the lane. The officer conducted a vehicle traffic stop. The driver was observed to have glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Defendant Mahendra Ro Samaroo, 39, of 9508 Lake Huge Drive, Gotha Florida was placed under arrest. Seated in the rear were the defendant’s 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son. They were released to the mother uninjured.
Defendant Samaroo is being charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Driving Intoxicated – Leandra’s Law, 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated and several Vehicle Traffic Laws. He will be arraigned on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
