The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a West Hempstead woman for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:05 p.m. in Uniondale.
According to police, Karen Hernandez, 38, of 54 Morton Avenue, was observed violating New York State Vehicular and Traffic Laws while operating a tan Suzuki east on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard. After conducting a Vehicle and Traffic Law investigation in the vicinity of Earle Ovington Boulevard it was discovered that the defendant had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, glassy eyes and slurred speech. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. Hernandez had her ten (10) year old daughter and eleven (11) year old son seated in the front and rear passenger seat. The children were released to family guardians.
Karen Hernandez is charged with two (2) counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child Under 15-Leandra’s Law), two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated and various VTL infractions. She will be arraigned on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at First District Court in Hempstead.
