Marine Bureau reports the details of a Water Emergency that occurred on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 8:45 pm off of Bayville.
According to Police, 911 received a call for a disabled 16 ft. Sea Ray Bowrider with four (4) men on board. The operator, 28, was unsure of his location and could not accurately relay his coordinates.
A thorough and collaborative investigation was conducted with 911 Operators, NYPD Harbor and the U.S. Coast Guard. Nassau County Marine 8 was directed to the boats vicinity using a signal from a cell phone located on the disabled vessel. The operator of the boat was asked to light a flare to assist Marine 8 in locating them. He did not know how to light a flare and was having difficulty communicating due to a language barrier. Nassau County Marine Bureau explained how to light a flare to 911 operators, who were able to relay that information to the operator of the disabled boat. The operator was successful in lighting the flare. Marine 8 located the vessel off of Bayville and towed it back to Oyster Bay.
No injuries were reported.
