Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder and Nassau County Police Benevolent Association President James McDermott will be joined by Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe and hundreds of children to give away over 1000 back packs to children in need that are returning to school this September. The backpacks are being sponsored by the Nassau County Police PBA and Nassau County Police Foundation. The 1000 free backpacks will be filled with supplies for school, including notebooks, pens, pencils, papers and other items for the classroom. The backpacks are intended for children ages 5-15.
Thousands of children will be returning to school in a few weeks and a number of them are in need of basic school supplies. The backpack giveaway helps prepare students with the tools needed for the year ahead.
The Nassau County Police will provide mounted police units with officers on horses as well as a landing by the police helicopter at the park, for all the children to enjoy.
