Fourth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Far Rockaway woman for Robbery that occurred on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 2:32 pm in North Lawrence.
According to detectives, Debra Allenby, 56, of Far Rockaway, entered Burlington Coat Factory located at 345 Rockaway Turnpike at approximately 9:25 am. Allenby removed the tags from a wallet, placed it in her pocket and exited the store without paying for the merchandise. Store management decided not to report the incident to police.
Allenby returned at 2:30 pm and was immediately recognized from the earlier incident by employees. A store manager attempted to approach Allenby, who refused to stop and proceeded to exit the store. A patrol officer located Allenby in the parking lot and she refused to comply with verbal commands. Allenby physically engaged the officer, placed her hand on his firearm and attempted to remove it. The defendant was subdued and placed under arrest.
The officer suffered abrasions and lacerations to his forearms and elbows. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Defendant Allenby is charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, two (2) counts of Petit Larceny, Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Governmental Administration. She will be arraigned on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
