The Homicide Squad reports the details of a vehicular accident that occurred at 12:51am on Sunday, September 23, 2018 in Long Beach.
According to Detectives, the male pedestrian, 53, was crossing the east bound lanes of East Park Avenue at Long Beach Boulevard. An unknown vehicle was stopped in the left hand lane of Park Avenue allowing the pedestrian to cross in front of the vehicle. As he continued in the center of the crosswalk to the south side of the roadway he was struck by a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander. The driver of the vehicle had the green light and attempted to stop but struck the victim as he crossed. The driver stayed at the scene and contacted Police for assistance. The male victim was transported to South Nassau Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Subsequent to the investigation, the driver, defendant Dana Giffin, 32, of 2681 Woods Avenue East Meadow was arrested by the Long Beach Police Department and charged with one count of Driving While Ability Impaired.
