
Fifth Squad detectives report the arrest of an Elmont man for Reckless Endangerment that occurred on Saturday, November 03, 2018 at 2:00 pm in Franklin Square.
According to detectives, patrol officers observed a 2014 white Mercedes Benz driving northbound on Franklin Avenue with a defective headlight. Officers conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. During the investigation, the operator exited the vehicle. At this time, the front passenger moved into the driver’s seat and was instructed by officers to return to the passenger’s seat. The subject refused to comply with the officer’s commands and proceeded to drive away, causing an officer to back away from the fleeing vehicle. The subject fled northbound on Franklin Avenue. After committing multiple traffic infractions, the subject drove in the direction of oncoming traffic. The vehicle came to a stop and the subject exited the driver’s seat in the vicinity of Nassau Blvd. and Park Ave., Garden City Park. Deval Rhodes, 27, of 2168 Renfrew Avenue was placed under arrest.
The defendant was found to be in possession of eight (8) forged credit cards, four (4) forged U.S. twenty dollar bills and a substance believed to be marihuana.
Defendant Rhodes is charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Unauthorized use of a Vehicle 1st Degree, four (4) counts Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st Degree, eight (8) counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, Unlawful possession of Personal Identification Information 3rd Degree, Reckless Driving, Criminal Possession Marihuana 5th Degree and twenty-five (25) Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Rhodes also had five (5) open warrants in Nassau County. He will be arraigned on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
The operator of the initial traffic stop was issued a summons for a defective headlight.
