


The Third Squad reports the arrests of three individuals for Narcotics that occurred on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 12:40 am in Westbury.
According to detectives, a Third Precinct Patrol Supervisor and an Officer were on Holiday Season Patrol in the retail hub area of Westbury. It was at this time they noticed a 2003 Toyota parked in the rear parking lot of the AMC Theatre located at 1025 Corporate Drive. The vehicle was parked in a dark remote section of the lot. As the officer’s approached the vehicle they both observed defendants David Lyons, 31, of 22 Lehigh Street, Williston Park ( driver’s seat ), Grace Lyons, 31, of 20 Carling Drive, New Hyde Park ( front passenger ), and Deron Barnes, 36, of 127 Pearsal Avenue, Freeport. The officer’s also were able to observe in plain view a clear bag containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine, wax envelopes containing a brown tannish substance believed to be Heroin, and a clear bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be Fentanyl. There were also multiple needles and crack pipes also observed inside the vehicle. All three defendants were then directed to exit the vehicle so they can be put into police custody and continue with a police investigation. It was at this time defendant Deron Barnes fled on foot though the parking lot. A short time later both officers were able to place Barnes into custody but only after a brief violent struggle in which he punched, kicked, and elbowed the officer’s.
Subsequently after arrest both officer’s began to feel faint and light headed after handling the substance inside the vehicle believed to be Fentanyl. a Nassau County Police Emergency Unit along with The Nassau County Fire Marshal responded to assist in decontamination of the vehicle. The two officers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Defendant Barnes was transported in a Nassau County Police Ambulance to a local hospital as well and treated for abrasions to his body.
Defendant Deron Barnes is charged with six counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, and Resisting Arrest. Defendant David Lyons is charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Defendant Grace Lyons is charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. All defendants will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, November 24, 2018.
