The First Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for Robbery that occurred in Roosevelt on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 10:05 pm.
According to detectives, a 51 year old male gas attendant working at the Sunoco Gas Station located at 465 Nassau Road. He had just finished pumping gas and making change for the defendant Vernon Lowe, 53, of 85 Grenada Avenue who was seated in his vehicle. The defendant then struck the victim in the face with a pair of silver colored vice grips causing him to fall to the ground striking his head and briefly lose consciousness. Lowe then took an undisclosed amount of US currency from the victim’s pockets and fled on a black / silver bicycle east on Pennywood Avenue. First Precinct police responded and canvassed the area. A short while later police were able to locate the bicycle lying on the front lawn of a Pennywood Avenue residence. First Precinct police observed the defendant exit the residence and attempted to run. After a brief struggle police were able to place the defendant Vernon Lowe into police custody. The victim suffered lacerations to his head and lips. He was transported in a Nassau County Police Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. There were no other injuries reported.
Defendant Vernon Lowe is charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Saturday, November 30, 2018 at First District Court in Hempstead.
