Fourth Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Mastic Beach man for an Assault that occurred on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at Point Lookout.
According to detectives, the Defendant, Brant Ovsianik, 35, of Mastic Beach did have a verbal argument with his girlfriend, 37, at her residence located on Lynbrook Ave, Point Lookout. The argument escalated in which the defendant became agitated and slapped her across the face numerous times causing bruising and pain to her forehead. Later on in the day the defendant continued to yell at the victim and began striking the victim in the face with his hands and then slamming the victims head against the floor. After this, the defendant then stabbed the victim in her left side with a screwdriver. As the victim attempted to call for help the defendant began chocking her while covering her mouth, causing the victim to have difficulty breathing. The victim then broke free and attempted to call 911 using her cell phone and house phone but the defendant broke both of them, preventing her from calling.
The defendant then jumped into the victims 2013 Honda that was parked in the driveway. The victim attempted to stop the defendant from taking her car by walking in front of the driveway, but the defendant backed the car into her. The victim got out of the way after which the defendant backed the car up, put it in drive and drove into the victim again, causing her pain to both of her legs and feet. The defendant then drove away.
A short time later, Fourth Precinct police observed the defendant in the vicinity of Lido Blvd and Lynbrook Ave and conducted a car stop. As the defendant was exiting the vehicle, he struck one of the officers on the right side of his face. Officers then attempted to place the defendant under arrest at which time he prevented them from doing so by flailing his arms. After a brief struggle officers were able to place the defendant in custody.
Defendant, Brant Ovsianik was found to be in possession of one sublingual strip and 3.5 round orange pills, both believed to be Buprenorphine and Naloxone and a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana. He was also found in possession of victim’s jewelry, cell phone and a gravity knife.
The Fourth Precinct police officer was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries to his jaw and right wrist. The defendant was transported to a nearby hospital and is being evaluated for swallowing pills. The victim was also transported to a nearby hospital for her injuries and further evaluation and treatment.
The defendant, Brant Ovsianik, is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, one count of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, one count of Assault 3rd degree, two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, one count of Resisting Arrest, one count of Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, two counts Criminal Mischief 4th degree, one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, one count of Unauthorized Use of Vehicle 3rd degree, one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident, one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Driver and one count of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing/Blood Circulation.
He will be arraigned when medically practical.
