First Squad detectives report the arrest of a West Hempstead man for an incident that occurred on Friday, March 01, 2019 at 3:00 A.M. in Roosevelt.
According to detectives, Police Officers observed a blue Ford Explorer violate Vehicle & Traffic Laws while traveling south on Brookside Avenue and proceeded to pulled the vehicle over on West Pennywood Avenue. As officers approached the car, the driver, Kenneth Grafton, 45, of 846 Woodfield Road, initially ignored officer’s commands to show his hands and began reaching towards the center console where they observed numerous glassine envelopes. After being asked to exit his vehicle, Grafton put the car into drive and dragged an officer who reached into the car in an attempt to place the vehicle into park. After freeing himself from the partially closed window, the injured officer then got back into his police vehicle and followed Grafton onto Uniondale Avenue in the vicinity of Park Avenue where Grafton crashed into two parked vehicles and flipped his car. After removing Grafton from his vehicle he was placed under arrest and transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries he sustained as a result of the crash. The officer who was dragged also suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.
Glassine envelopes containing heroine were recovered from Grafton’s vehicle.
Grafton is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, and numerous Vehicle & Traffic Law violations. Grafton will be arraigned when medically practical.
